Implenia-led joint venture secures second contract for major Norwegian sub-sea road tunnel

A joint venture between Implenia and Stangeland Maskin was awarded a second contract, worth CHF 540 million (€556.7 million), by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, for the Rogfast project.

The Rogfast project will be a record-breaking, 27-kilometer-long, sub-sea road tunnel between Randaberg and Bokn in Norway. Furthermore, it will reach as deep as 392 meters below sea level and be part of the European E39 highway upon completion in 2033.

As the company announced on May 21, the contract regards the E02 Kvitsøy portion of the project, which will consist of an 8.8-kilometer long and 10.5-meter diameter tunnel, located approximately 230 meters below the water surface.

In addition to these, the joint venture is also called to construct two ventilation shafts and two bridges, as well as an interchange within the tunnel and a 1.6 km of ground surface road.

The same joint venture has also been awarded a contract and is already constructing the E03 Boknafjord portion of Rogfast, while the two sections combined account for about 70% of the entire project.

Finally, the contract for the E02 Kvitsøy project will be signed on June 7 and construction is scheduled for completion in 2030.
