Video: Greece: Strong Quake Hits Lefkada

Two elderly women were killed by the strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of at least 6.1 which occurred today at 9:10 a.m. 13 kilometers west of Lefkada, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute. Eight people were also injured.

The quake caused serious damage to infrastructure and buildings on Lefkada and nearby islands, Kefalonia and Ithaca. The road network has been cut in several places due to landslides.

The Deputy Head of the Ionian Islands asked from students to be removed from schools and engineers try to control damage to the road network.

There is a strong aftershock sequence in the island, including one with a 5.1 magnitude about 23 kilometers from the city of Lefkada with a focal depth of 2 km.

The earthquake was felt from Kalamata to Ioannina.

The scene is captured by a fisherman. Fortunately, due to the season, the famous beach was empty. Otherwise, it is almost certain that there would be victims.
