Michael Meneses, Will Burgos, and James Hussin have written a feature story in May/June’s issue of DFI Deep Foundations Magazine discussing recent high-rise construction in South Florida. The article highlights the use of CFA (auger cast) piles as deep foundations, along with low-vibration soil mixing as both the excavation support system and bottom plug.
“Looking toward a new age of development and focusing on population growth within the Greater Miami area, luxury high-rise and residential construction began in the late 1990s. But as buildings grew taller, developers and contractors faced new challenges beneath the surface. And to address the parking demands of these high-rises, as well as benefit from using all above-grade floors for residential and commercial use, the concept of below-grade parking levels became a necessary challenge.”
