The contract for the K2D Skøyen to Vækerø project was awarded on the 16th of March.
K2D Skøyen to Vækerø is part of the new Fornebu subway line in Oslo, which will have a total length of 8.2km.
The Skøyen to Vækerø project will consist of a 1.2km long tunnel and an escape tunnel under the heavily urbanized neighborhood of Bestum, as well as the Skøyen subway station at a total cost of NOK 1.3 bn (about € 115m). This section’s construction is expected to start this year and be completed in 2025.
Environmental criteria, such as protection and sustainability, played an important role in this tender process, and accounted for 20% of the selection criteria. In addition to this, there was comprehensive BIM implementation presented in the tender.
The Fornebu line is Norway’s largest subway tunneling project since the 1970s and is constructed using the drill and blast method.
The K2D was the third out of four major tunnel contracts for the line, the client of which is the Oslo Municipality Fornebubanen, according to the winning company’s global head of tunneling, Erwin Scherer.
It is worth mentioning that the winning company is already constructing the first part of the tunnel, and recently had a breakthrough, on March 15, when the north and south sides of the first tunnel met.
