A sinkhole forming at Fox Hollow Golf Club, in American Fork, Utah went viral on TikTok on May 21st.
Jaxson Taylor, the club’s head golf professional, stated that the sinkhole started appearing around 1 p.m. He also said that the reason behind it was a tree clogging an underground pipe, causing the water to expand through it.
The heavy snow that the nearby Wasatch Mountains experienced this winter also played a part in the formation of the sinkhole, as record water levels were observed in the area.
However, the ground has now been stabilized and the course is open again, as Susan Goebel, American Fork public works director said. More specifically, this was done by stabilizing the walls using rock and riprap materials, replacing, and restoring the culvert and finally backfilling and grading.
