Landslide crumbles down San Bernardino County’s mountain in California (video)

A video by San Bernardino County firefighters captures the moment the large volume of snow, rock, soil and timber slides off the mountainside.

Being as large as 3 football fields, the landslide occurred on Thursday morning, February 16. It is 300 yards (275 m) wide and extends 1,000 feet (300 m) from top to bottom in the Slide Canyon area of San Bernardino's National Forest, according to the local fire department spokesman, Eric Sherwin.

After crumbling down the mountain, the slide continued to travel into the valley below, threatening at that time the region's fire station, four houses and Valley Of The Falls Drive – a road used by local people for everyday transportation. Two of the houses were vacant and residents of the other two were evacuated, while fire officials removed equipment from the station to protect it. Luckily the slide was placed under control, not causing any serious damage.
