Tropical Storm Franklin made landfall in the Dominican Republic late on Wednesday, the 23rd of August, causing floods and landslides on the island of Hispaniola.
Franklin brought heavy rainfall and maximum winds of 65 kph, with gusts exceeding that number.
The island of Hispaniola, which is shared between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, is heavily eroded and prone to flooding.
Furthermore, floods and landslides were triggered due to the storm, which caused at least 350 people to be moved to shelters, as well as another 280 evacuated from their residences.
One man died after being swept away by floodwaters in the city of San Cristobal, while two more people were injured in a landslide in the same area.
Another teenager went missing after being swept away from a river, as well as a 54-year-old man who jumped into a creek.
2,760 roads were damaged by floods and landslides due to extreme weather events, leaving at least six communities isolated.
Houses around the country have also been damaged, with one roof caving in near San Cristobal. More specifically, the Emergency Operations Center said that 547 homes had been damaged or affected by the storm as of August 23.
Franklin, the seventh named tropical storm during this Atlantic hurricane season, then continued moving northward.
It is forecasted that the storm will intensify into a hurricane and move towards Bermuda.
