Take a look at Measurand's SAA Centralizers! Centralizers are intended for use in installations where the SAAF and its PVC casing cannot be grouted into the inclinometer casing.
In many cases, it is desirable to replace an existing inclinometer installation with SAAFs. When this takes place, the PVC casing in which the SAAF is installed is generally grouted into the inclinometer casing in which it is installed in order to ensure the highest quality displacement measurements. These centralizers are designed for use in between 70 mm OD (59 mm ID) inclinometer casing and 27 mm ID (32 mm OD) PVC used to house an SAAF. In general it is recommended that the SAAF and PVC be grouted into any borehole or casing in order to ensure the best displacement measurements.
Measurand manufactures two types of centralizers:
The Spring Centralizer, which is designed to travel along the grooves located inside standard inclinometer casing. The advantage of using this centralizer is to control the azimuth of the SAAF, and the better ensured agreement between SAAF and inclinometer data. Though these centralizers do allow for the azimuth of the SAAF to follow the grooves inside the inclinometer casing, using many of these centralizers can cause significant friction to build up making insertion more difficult for longer SAAFs.
The Smooth Centralizer, which is designed to fit inside a standard inclinometer casing. The advantage of using the smooth centralizer is reduced friction between the centralizer and inclinometer casing. This makes for easier installation when compared to the use of spring centralizers, but since the smooth centralizers do not follow the inclinometer grooves, these do not offer the opportunity for azimuth control of the SAAF during the insertion process.
