A shallow landslide occurred in the Italian town of Montescaglioso last Tuesday, destroying roads and buildings, and causing a supermarket to collapse.
The area is known to be affected by the Madonna La Nova Landslide System and remote-sensing techniques have been used to detect changes that might lead to failure. The aforementioned landslide, which was triggered by heavy rainfall, was part of this Landslide System and fortunately no injuries were reported.
