The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) has completed the construction works of Ibn Hammad Dam in Ghor Haditha area in the Southern Jordan Valley in the Karak governorate.
The dam has a total storage capacity of 4.0 million cubic meters (MCM), with the aim of providing irrigation water for agricultural units in the Jordan Valley, as well as industrial uses, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
According to a JVA statement on Saturday, the dam project's total cost amounted to about JD53 million, as the state Treasury offered JD7.5 million, and the remaining funding was provided from the Arab Potash Company (APC), which will be repaid by reducing the price of industrial water under a financing agreement between the JVA and the APC.
The project, which took 810 contractual days to be implemented, was carried out by Marwan Ahmad Alkurdi & Part. Co. Ltd, in alliance with Enex Contracting Corporation, the statement added.
Overall, the dams' total storage capacity will rise to 285.26mcm, the statement noted, adding that the number of the Kingdom's major dams became 14 after Karama Dam was removed from water balance list.
In addition, JVA will operate Al-Fidan Dam, located in the Wadi Araba region, in the coming weeks, to be used for crop irrigation and household purposes.
