The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced, last Friday, the completion of the construction of 40 drilled shafts that will support foundations for the new St. Croix River Bridge.
These 9 feet diameter steel casings are placed into the muck and bedrock beneath the river bottom and range from 90-120 feet long. Further work on footings and columns has been done and the completion of the foundation work is scheduled by early 2014, according to MnDOT.
