The construction of the new Zerben lock will facilitate the passage of large barges to reach ports on the river Rhine and Berlin’s inland harbor network. A diaphragm wall is being constructed as a foundation and is used to create a 265m long, 22.5m wide and 17m deep excavation pit.
Sheet piles, ground anchors against uplift and piles that will support reinforced concrete horizontal pillars on the upper parts of the excavation will be used for the construction. The completion of the foundation work is planned by the end of next year.
