A day of heavy rains in Minneapolis, resulted in the collapse of a hillside across a Mississippi River bluff, displacing 6 to 8 feet of debris and mud upon West River Parkway and into the river. According to officials, two vehicles moving on the road, managed to escape without any harm. Concerns are expressed regarding the stability of Fairview Riverside Hospital, now appearing hanging at the edge of the hill.
The hillside that collapsed into the Mississippi River measured about 100 yards and has blocked the road underneath it for several days. No casualties occurred, however there is significant concern on the hospital's foundation, which may have been undermined, according to hospital engineers. They particularly focused on the filled oxygen tanks, located very close to the collapsed hillside, however later on fire officials confirmed that the tanks were still resting upon bedrock and shale. According to a spokesperson, no patients were affected or moved. With the hospital closely monitoring the situation, about 20 employees evacuated their offices in a building close to the tanks, as a precaution.
