A landslide took place in Los Angeles around 3 am on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, damaging three houses.
Furthermore, the incident occurred in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood, about 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
A house that was under renovation at the time was reduced into rubble, while a deck and pool got detached from the foundation of a second one.
In addition to this, a third property up the hill was also affected, having its pool and tennis court hanging at the edge of a large fissure.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, evacuated several people from one home and drained the pools to reduce the weight imposed on the slope.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety also investigated the area, and determined that two houses were deemed unsafe, while a third one was yellow tagged, indicating partial damage.
Finally, the reasons behind the landslide have not yet been officially determined, but it is speculated that excessive rainfall, which preceded the event, played a critical role in its occurrence.
