A sinkhole in China's southern Guangdong province in the city of Guangzhou, “swallowed” a total of four buildings. It swallowed the first at 16:20 local time, allowing for individuals to capture on video the collapse of the subsequent buildings. The diameter of the sinkhole is 10 m. No lifes were claimed as the area was evacuated. About 300 residents were evacuated and 3,000 homes were without power.
The reasons for the sinkhole remain unknown. However, the Telegraph reports that construction of a new subway station was taking place nearby. AOL reports that another sinkhole opened up in 2004 on the same road, also reportedly caused by underground construction. View the embedded video under "Media" below.
