Heavy rains moved through parts of southern Japan on Saturday, leaving many houses, buildings and vehicles submerged. At least 18 people have been confirmed dead, with more than a dozen killed in nursing home facility, while another 16 people are missing and presumed dead as search and rescue efforts continued Sunday. According to reports, more than 40,000 defence troops, the Coast Guard and fire brigades were taking part in the efforts.
