Landslide hits a bus in Colombia, killing 13

Thirteen people are reportedly dead, after a landslide pushed a bus into a ravine in southwest Colombia on Saturday, January 20.

The landslide occurred on Tumaco-Pasto highway, a mountainous highway between the cities of Pasto and Tumaco in Narino province, after heavy rain hit the region. Officials estimated that about 5,000 cubic meters of soil came loose and went down on to the highway and into the ravine.

According to officials,the 16-seat bus picked up passengers en route, and thus, it is not clear whether there could be more victims than the 13 who have so far been found.

As reported by Colombia Reports, road infrastructure in Narino is notoriously bad, particularly in the mountainous east of the province where landslides are common during rainy season.
