Excavation Work Triggers Fatal Building Collapse in Mathura

A tragic incident unfolded on June 15, 2025, in Mathura’s Shahganj area, where excavation activity near Maya Teela led to the sudden collapse of six residential houses. The work, intended for nearby construction, is suspected to have compromised the foundations of surrounding buildings, causing them to give way in quick succession.

The collapse, which occurred in a densely populated neighborhood, has resulted in three confirmed fatalities, including a man and two young children. Several others are feared trapped beneath the rubble. Emergency responders, including teams from the fire department, municipal corporation, and local police, are engaged in a continuous rescue operation. JCB machines have been deployed for debris removal, and a temporary medical support system is operating onsite.

The District Magistrate confirmed that rescue remains the top priority. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are en route. Building safety inspections are underway, and investigations will follow once all lives are accounted for.

This incident echoes past concerns in Mathura about construction safety. Just last year, a newly constructed water tank collapsed in the same district.
