A new 6.3 magnitude earthquake this morning came to hit the same region in Afghanistan as the one that suffered widespread destruction on Saturday.
Furthermore, the 6.3 magnitude earthquake on Saturday occurred in the western part of Herat province, approximately 40 kilometers west of the city of Herat.
According to the Taliban, the event on Saturday caused at least 2,400 fatalities, while it left more than 2,000 people injured, and nearly as many houses leveled or partially collapsed.
As for today’s event, it was yet another 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck about 28 kilometers north of the city of Herat, at approximately 5:10 a.m. local time on the 11th of October, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the U.S Geological Survey.
Initial reports state that at least 80 people were injured in the event, while no casualties have been reported, as most people in the affected area were sleeping in tents due to fear caused by constant tremors following the previous strong earthquake.
Today’s earthquake has reportedly reduced the village of Chahak to rubble, where 700 homes were flattened, while the main Herat-Torghondi highway was blocked by a landslide, according to Abdul Wahid Rayan, Information Ministry spokesperson.
