Rockfalls in Greek island of Lesvos struck residences

The region of Plomari in Lesvos island was hit by rocksfalls that damaged houses on Saturday 24 of November 2018.

 The rock blocks fell on vehicles, houses and two farm buildings but fortunately they caused only material damage as no resident was injured. 

A team of scientists from the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.) will visit the site on 25 of November to examine the landslides and evaluate the vulnerability of the area. 

According to local officials, rockfalls were triggered due to heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Residents were panicked as the noise that the slides caused was tremendous. Some of them have evacuated their homes in fear of more instabilities. 

The village of Plomari had also been struck by landslides and rockfalls triggered by a Mw 6,2 earthquake in 2017. Back then, many houses were damaged and a woman, unfortunately, died.
