For several days, landslides keep evolving near Kryopigi village in Preveza, Greece.
Villagers claim that ,since the 27th of March, they have been observing in a daily basis sliding movements of provincial road and olive groves, in a distance no more than 600-700m from the village.
As Mr. Nikolaou, general director of Institute of Geology & Mineral Exploration in Ipiros, explains, an area of 400 acres keeps sliding downhill, pointing out that "the soils are blue marls, a formation that has no coherent rock and in conjuction with heavy rainfall in a short period of time, this phenomenon has occured". Also, Mr. Nikolaou reports that the region has a history of landslides in its geological evolution, while the existence of a fault, which passes through the area, favors even more the evolution of such a phenomenon.
