A strong earthquake occurred in Mexico, southwest of Juan Rodriguez Clara, in the state of Veracruz, yesterday July 29th at 5:46 a.m.. U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 95km with the epicenter located 46kilometers southwest of Isla.
The temblor was felt in many areas in Veracruz state, with no damages or injuries being recorded so far, according to its spokesman. In Mexico City, Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera stated that the emergency management personnel are conducting inspections for damages, ordering some evacuations of buildings as a precaution, however so far, no injuries or damages have been reported. State oil company Pemex, announced through Twitter that all its facilities are safe and unharmed by the quake following preliminary inspections. Authorities also announced that the nuclear power plant of Laguna Verde located in Veracruz remained unharmed.
National Civil Protection Coordinator Luis Felipe Puente, stated at the Televisa network that the particular earthquake type is short and fast, which in combination with its large epicentral depth did not seriously affect any constructions.
