A video has recently emerged showing the backyard of an apartment building in Lowville, New York, getting swallowed by a landslide on Wednesday, July 10th.
Furthermore, the property is located at 5314 Dayan Street, and the video of the event was captured by the owner, Gayla Roggie.
According to 7 News, the landslide shown in the video was the second to occur on the plot of land that day, with the first one taking place about two hours earlier.
The building consists of two apartment units, where at the time of the event four tenants were inside, and all of whom had enough time to grab some belongings and evacuate safely.
It is estimated by Roggie that some 13 feet of the backyard were swallowed by the landslide.
As for the reason behind the slope’s failure, it has been stated by The Weather Channel that the area had shortly before received more than six inches of rain, as it was one of the worst hit by the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.
Moreover, it can safely be assumed that the wet conditions played some part in the evolution of the landslide, while it is worth mentioning that flooding was also present in Lowville at the time.
Finally, the proprietor said that they were waiting for an engineer to inspect the condition of the site and the apartment building, while they are unsure whether the damage caused by the landslide will be covered by the insurance.
