A landslide occurred in the Hollywood Hills, on Wednesday 3d of April around 5:30 p.m. causing the owner of a newly constructed home to postpone his move-in plans. Fortunately, it is confirmed that no injuries occurred due to the incident. A neighbor captured footage of the time instant the landslide occurred– the video can be found here.
The damage to the house is significant, as dirt has infiltrated the kitchen and bedroom, and the roof is on the brink of collapsing. Marc Verbena is the owner of the house. He received the distressing news when the hillside collapsed onto his still-in-progress residence.
After he sought help from city inspectors and geologists, they claimed that he will need approximately $500,000 for rebuilding the hillside and reconstructing the residence, upon the unexpected nature and the scale of the landslide. The owner stated that the cost is so prohibitive that it will dissuade him from moving in, leaving him in a precarious situation.
It should be mentioned that Verbena noted previous instances of minor mudslides following rainfall, but nothing on this scale. Despite attempts efforts to contact the city for assistance, no response has been received, leaving the home under a red-tag designation until further notice.
