The torrential rains in Japan have caused flooding and landslides that have forced more than 100,000 people to flee their homes. At least 27 people were injured and 25 missing according to the authorities.
The National Weather Service issued a "special alert" for regions Tochigi and Ibaraki, north of Tokyo.
The head of the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Takuya Deshimaru, said that the resulting rainfall was "unprecedented" and called it "an abnormal situation" that posed "imminent serious danger."
He insisted that they should be vigilant for the areas located around these regions due to the fact that the risk of landslides is extremely high.
"The central government, police, fire officials and military are all working as one," chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga told a news conference. "We are doing everything in our power to rescue those in need as soon as possible."
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters the government will "prioritize the safety of the people and do our best to prevent any further disaster."
In the region of Tochigi 90,000 people were ordered to leave their homes. Also, 20,000 residents in Ibaraki were ordered to leave their homes.
A total of 800,000 people have been advised to leave their homes, and among them there are residents of areas of Tokyo.
Some homes were swept away by the currents which were formed or they destroyed by landslides, according to the principles of Tochigi.
