I had some memorable experience with Prof. Woods. When I was a student at Northwestern, we used his Soil Dynamic Book and I met him on campus. He also discussed with me some of the research I was working on. One day I was in Disney World (mid 90’s) standing in a long line with my family (kids). A gentlemen wearing a hat was behind me in line. After few minutes he approached me and asked me if I was Vipu? I was shocked and he took his hat off and I immediately recognized Prof. Woods. Then we started talking about the rail systems in the Disney world and how they were designed and also the durability. He explained to me the important factors that were considered for designing the supporting foundations and also the soils with the dynamic loading. I enjoyed the discussion for over 2 hours waiting in line and travelling together in the rail.

My thoughts are with his family.
