Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge opened

The Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge is a two-decked suspension bridge carrying the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang high-speed railway and the Jiangyi Expressway over the Yangtze. With a total length of 6,409 m (21,027 ft) and a main span of 1,092 m (3,583 ft), it is the world's longest span high-speed railway bridge, tied with the Hutong Yangtze River Bridge.

Japan National Stadium broke ground

The Japan National Stadium, officially named National Stadium and formerly known as New National Stadium or Olympic Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium used mostly for association football in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Demolition of the old National Stadium was completed in May 2015. It has a capacity of 68,089 in athletics mode with the ability to construct temporary seating over the permanent track to create an increased capacity of 80,016.

Highland Towers collapse

The Highland Towers collapse occurred on 11 December 1993 in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Tower Block 1 collapsed from a major landslide caused by heavy rains that burst diversion pipes. The Highland Towers consisted of three 12-storey buildings or "blocks". The collapse of Block 1 resulted in 48 deaths. Residents of the other two blocks and neighbouring establishments were evacuated due to safety concerns.

SkyTrain (Vancouver) opened

SkyTrain is the medium-capacity rapid transit system serving the Metro Vancouver region in British Columbia, Canada. SkyTrain has 79.6 km (49.5 mi) of track and uses fully automated trains on grade-separated tracks running on underground and elevated guideways, allowing SkyTrain to hold consistently high on-time reliability. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 116,569,000, or about 426,900 per weekday as of the second quarter of 2023. SkyTrain has 53 stations served by three lines: the Expo Line, the Millennium Line, and the Canada Line.

Webster Paulson was born

Webster Paulson was an English civil engineer who is known for his work in Malta in the late 19th century. In 1861, he was sent to Malta to supervise the construction of the Royal Opera House in Valletta, which was designed by Edward Middleton Barry. In 1865, he was commissioned as a contractor in the construction of the Holy Trinity Church in Sliema, which was built to designs of Gordon MacDonald Hills. In 1876, he became an Associate of the British Institute of Civil Engineers, later becoming an Associate Member. He was transferred to the Public Works department after the latter's establishment in 1880, and he was involved in numerous projects around Malta.
