Istanbul Airport opening ceremony
Located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of the city, Istanbul Airport is the main international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. It is the busiest airport in Europe and 13th-busiest airport in the world in terms of total passenger traffic and also the 2nd-busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger traffic. On 6 April 2019, all scheduled commercial passenger flights were transferred from Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport.
2014 Badulla landslide
At 7:30 am on 29 October 2014, a landslide struck the Sri Lanka district of Badulla, killing at least 16 people and leaving an estimated 200 missing. The landslide was triggered by monsoon rains and was about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) long.
2008 Ziarat earthquakes
The 2008 Ziarat earthquakes hit the Pakistani province of Balochistan with a moment magnitude of 6.4. The US Geological Survey reported that the first earthquake occurred 60 km (37 mi) north of Quetta and 185 km (115 mi) southeast of the Afghanistan city of Kandahar at 04:09 local time (28 October, 23:09 UTC) at a depth of 15 km (9.3 mi), at 30.653°N, 67.323°E. It was followed by another shallower magnitude 6.4 earthquake at a depth of 14 km (8.7 mi) approximately 12 hours after the initial shock, at 30.546°N, 67.447°E. 215 people were confirmed dead. More than 200 were injured (according to Mohammed Zaman, assistant to the Balochistan chief secretary, Nasir Khosa), and 120,000 were homeless.
Link River Dam opened
The Link River Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Link River in the city of Klamath Falls, Oregon, United States. It was built in 1921 by the California Oregon Power Company (COPCO), the predecessor of PacifiCorp, which continues to operate the dam. The dam is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Link River Dam's reservoir, Klamath Lake, has a capacity of 873,000 acre-feet (1.077×109 m3). The project provides flood control, generates hydro power, and stores most of the water used for irrigation in the Klamath Reclamation Project. The dam is 22 feet (7 m) high and 435 feet (133 m) long.
