Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge opened

The Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge is a suspension bridge in Wuhan, Hubei, China. It opened to traffic on October 8, 2019 and is the third longest suspension bridge span in the world and overall the longest in China. The bridge spans 1,700 metres (5,577.4 feet; 1.1 miles) across the Yangtze River. The bridge is the longest double-deck bridge span in the world and carries motorized vehicles, non-motorized vehicles, and pedestrians on its two decks. The bridge cost CNY ¥8.5 billion (US$1.27 billion) to build.

Forum 66 Tower 1 opened

Located in Shenyang, Liaoning, twin tower complex Forum 66 consists of two supertall skyscrapers; Tower 1 is 384 m (1,260 ft) with 76 floors and Tower 2 is 351 m (1,152 ft) with 68 floors. Tower 1 was completed in 2015 whilst the construction of Tower 2 has been suspended as of 2023.

2005 Kashmir earthquake

The 2005 Kashmir earthquake occurred in Azad Kashmir. It was centred near the city of Muzaffarabad, and also affected nearby Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some areas of Jammu and Kashmir. It registered a moment magnitude of 7.6 and had a maximum Mercalli intensity of XI (Extreme). The earthquake was also felt in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, India, and the Xinjiang region. The severity of the damage caused by the earthquake is attributed to severe upthrust. Over 86,000 people died, a similar number were injured, and millions were displaced. It is considered the deadliest earthquake in South Asia, surpassing the 1935 Quetta earthquake.

Sergey Chaplygin died

Sergey Alexeyevich Chaplygin was a Russian and Soviet physicist, mathematician, and mechanical engineer. He is known for mathematical formulas such as Chaplygin's equation and for a hypothetical substance in cosmology called Chaplygin gas, named after him.
