Robert W. Gore was American engineer and scientist, inventor and businessman. His most significant breakthrough was the invention or Gore-Tex, a waterproof and breathable fabric popularly known for its use in sporting and outdoor gear.

Central Park Tower topped-out

Central Park Tower is a residential supertall skyscraper at 225 West 57th Street in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City, along Billionaires' Row. The building rises 1,550 feet (472.4 m) with 98 above-ground stories and three basement stories, although the top story is numbered 136. Central Park Tower is the second-tallest building in New York City, the United States, and the Western Hemisphere; the 15th tallest building in the world; the tallest primarily residential building in the world; and the tallest building outside Asia by roof height.

Beaver Stadium opened

Beaver Stadium is an outdoor college football stadium on the campus of Pennsylvania State University in Penn State University Park. It has been home to the Penn State Nittany Lions of the Big Ten Conference since 1960, though some parts of the stadium date back to 1909. Beaver Stadium has an official seating capacity of 106,572, making it currently the second largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere and the fourth largest in the world. Its natural grass playing field is aligned northwest to southeast at an approximate elevation of 1,150 feet (350 m) above sea level.

Dodger Stadium broke ground

The Dodger Stadium is a baseball stadium in Los Angeles, California, and home to Major League Basketball's team Los Angeles Dodgers. Its construction lasted less than three years and cost US$23 (US$206 in 2020).

Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis died

Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis was a French mathematician, mechanical engineer and scientist. He is best known for his work on the supplementary forces that are detected in a rotating frame of reference, leading to the Coriolis effect. He was the first to apply the term travail (translated as "work") for the transfer of energy by a force acting through a distance.
