Harry Bolton Seed was born
Regarded as the founding father of geotechnical earthquake engineering, Harry Bolton Seed was an English civil engineer, educator, scholar, and former professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He investigated many major disasters, and his pioneering works included the development of equivalent linear method (SHAKE) for seismic site response analysis, soil structure interaction analysis, evaluation and mitigation of soil liquefaction, etc.
Tigra Dam failure
Located near Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, Tigra Dam has been constructed on Sank River in 1916. Due to infiltration into its sandstone foundations, it failed on the afternoon of 19 August 1917 resulting to about 1000 deaths.

Johann Balthasar Neumann, usually known as Balthasar Neumann, was a German architect and military artillery engineer who developed a refined brand of Baroque architecture, fusing Austrian, Bohemian, Italian, and French elements to design some of the most impressive buildings of the period, including the Würzburg Residence and the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers (called Vierzehnheiligen in German). The Würzburg Residence is considered one of the most beautiful and well proportioned palaces in Europe and the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers is considered by some as the crowning work of the period.
