Jaipur Metro opened
Serving Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, the Jaipur Metro began commercial service between Chandpole and Mansarovar on 3 June 2015. It is India's sixth metro rail system and the first metro in India to run on triple-storey elevated road and metro track.
Charlotte Coliseum was demolished
Charlotte Coliseum was a multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was best known as the home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets from 1988 to 2002, and the Charlotte Bobcats (now the second incarnation of the Hornets) from 2004 to 2005. The Coliseum hosted 371 consecutive NBA sell-outs from December 1988 to November 1997, which includes seven playoff games.
Eschede train disaster
An ICE 1 train on the Hannover-Hamburg railway near Eschede in Lower Saxony, Germany derailed and crashed into an overpass that crossed the railroad, which then collapsed onto the train. 101 people were killed and at least 88 were injured, making it as of 2023 the second-deadliest railway disaster in German history after the 1939 Genthin rail disaster, and the world's worst ever high-speed rail disaster.
Mount Unzen erupted
On June 3, 1991, the Mount Unzen volcano (located on the island of Kyushu, Japan) erupted violently, possibly as a result of depressurisation of the magma column after a landslide in the crater. The Mount Unzen eruption caused the first large-scale pyroclastic flow, unprecedented at the time, which killed 43 people in the evacuation zone.
1980 Grand Island tornado outbreak
The 1980 Grand Island tornado outbreak, also known as The Night of the Twisters, was a tornado outbreak that produced a series of destructive tornadoes that affected the city of Grand Island, Nebraska. Seven tornadoes touched down in or near the city that night, killing five people and injuring 200.
