2014 Aegean Sea earthquake

An earthquake occurred in the northern Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey on May 24, 2014. It had a moment magnitude of 6.9 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe). Serious damage was reported on the Turkish island of Imbros and the cities of Edirne and Çanakkale, as well as on the Greek island of Lemnos. The earthquake was felt in Bulgaria and southern Romania.

The 23 Marina was completed

The fourth tallest building in Dubai and the sixth tallest residential building in the world, 23 Marina is an 88-story, 392.8 m (1,289 ft) residential skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tower has 57 swimming pools and each duplex in the tower is equipped with its own private elevator.

(Modern) Seven Mile Bridge opened

Among the longest bridges in existence when it was built, the Seven Mile Bridge is located in the Florida Keys, Monroe County, Florida, United States. It comprises 440 spans over a length of 6.765 miles (10.887 km). In addition to supporting vehicular traffic, the bridge carries the Florida Keys aqueduct, supplying water to points west, as well as fiber optic cables, providing telecommunications to and from the lower Keys.

Jacques Cartier Bridge inaugurated

Connecting Montreal Island with Longueuil at Quebec, Canada, Jacques Cartier Bridge is a 3,425.6 m (11,239 ft) five-lane highway bridge. A steel truss cantilever bridge, it the third busiest bridge in Canada by vehicular traffic. Its name was given in honor of the French-Breton maritime explorer Jacques Cartier, who was the first European to sail the river crossed by the bridge.

Brooklyn Bridge opened

A major tourist attraction since its opening, the Brooklyn Bridge has become an icon of New York City. A hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge, it was the first fixed crossing of the East River. It was also the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening, with a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m) and a deck 127 ft (38.7 m) above mean high water.

Ashmolean Museum opened

The Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology on Beaumont Street, Oxford, England, is Britain's first public museum. Its first building was erected in 1678-1683 to house the cabinet of curiosities that Elias Ashmole gave to the University of Oxford in 1677. It is also the world's second university museum, after the establishment of the Kunstmuseum Basel in 1661 by the University of Basel.
