Taichung Metro opened

Located in in Taichung, Taiwan, Taichung Metro is a rapid transit system with a total length of 16.71 km (10.38 mi) as of 2023. Taichung Metro's first route, the "Green Line", was the 5th rapid transit system operating in Taiwan.

Doñana disaster

The Doñana Disaster, also known as the Aznalcollar Disaster or Guadiamar Disaster, was an industrial accident in Andalusia, southern Spain. It occurred when a holding dam burst at the Los Frailes mine, near Aznalcollar, Seville Province, releasing 4-5 million cubic metres of mine tailings. It was a major ecological disaster and the cleanup operation took three years, at an estimated cost of 240 million euros.

Markus Reiner died

Markus Reiner was an Israeli scientist and a major figure in rheology. Reiner was not only a major figure in rheology, he along with Eugene C. Bingham coined the term and founded a society for its study. As well as the term rheology, and his publications, he is known for the Buckingham-Reiner Equation, the Reiner-Riwlin Equation, and Reiner-Rivlin fluids, the Deborah number and the Teapot effect.

American civil engineer John Frank Stevens was an efficient administrator with remarkable technical skills and imagination. He built the Great Northern Railway in the United States and was chief engineer on the Panama Canal between 1905 and 1907 .

Siméon Denis Poisson died

French mathematician and physicist Siméon Denis Poisson contributed on various areas like statistics, complex analysis, partial differential equations, the calculus of variations, analytical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, elasticity, and fluid mechanics. Poisson's well-known generalization of Laplace's second order partial differential equation is known as Poisson's equation after him.
