Spring City 66 is a complex of two skyscrapers and a shopping center in Kunming, Yunnan, China. The skyscrapers are 349 metres (1,145.0 ft) and 250 metres (820.2 ft) tall.

Easter Week 2006 tornado outbreak was the third major outbreak of April 2006, which had been an unusually busy month for tornado activity. The most notable damages on this day were reported in Iowa City, Iowa, where an F2 tornado struck.

1992 Roermond earthquake

The 5.8 Richter magnitude 1992 Roermond earthquake hit the Netherlands. The 1992 Roermond earthquake was the strongest recorded earthquake in the Netherlands and in Northwestern Europe and caused substantial damage to old buildings in the Netherlands as well as Belgium and Germany.

Lapua Cartridge Factory explosion

Forty workers die in an explosion at the Lapua ammunition factory, the deadliest accidental disaster in modern history in Finland. In November 1976 investigators found that the explosion had begun with a machine which dispensed gunpowder and had spread from there, causing a chain reaction. However, a definitive cause of the explosion was never discovered.

Brisbane tram closure

The Brisbane tram network operated from 1885 until 1969. The reason for the closure was the convertion of all tram lines to bus ones. The last trams in Brisbane ran on 13 April 1969.

The Jefferson Memorial is dedicated

The Jefferson Memorial is a presidential memorial built in Washington, D.C. between 1939 and 1943 in honor of Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the United States Declaration of Independence, and the nation's third president. The memorial is composed of circular marble steps, a portico, a circular colonnade of Ionic order columns, and a shallow dome. It was dedicated on the 200th anniversary of President Thomas Jefferson's birth.

Alexander Mitchell was born

Alexander Mitchell was an Irish engineer who invented the screw-pile lighthouse although from 1802 he was blind. The screw-pile was used for the erection of lighthouses and other structures on mudbanks and shifting sands, including bridges and piers.

Richard Trevithick was born

Richard Trevithick was a British inventor and mining engineer. He was an early pioneer of steam-powered road and rail transport, and his most significant contributions were the development of the first high-pressure steam engine and the first working railway steam locomotive.
