Lofthouse Colliery disaster
The Lofthouse Colliery disaster was a mining accident in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, on Wednesday 21 March 1973, in which seven mine workers died when workings flooded.
Neyland Stadium broke ground
is a sports stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. It serves primarily as the home of the Tennessee Volunteers football team, but is also used to host large conventions and has been a site for several National Football League (NFL) exhibition games. The stadium's official capacity is 101,915. Constructed in 1921 as Shields–Watkins Field (which is now the name of the playing surface), the stadium has undergone 16 expansion projects, at one point reaching a capacity of 104,079 before being slightly reduced by alterations in the following decade.
Great New Orleans Fire
The Great New Orleans Fire (1788) was a fire that destroyed 856 of the 1,100 structures in New Orleans, Louisiana (New Spain), on March 21, 1788, spanning the south central Vieux Carré from Burgundy to Chartres Street, almost to the Mississippi River front buildings. An additional 212 buildings were destroyed in a later citywide fire, on December 8, 1794.
Joseph Fourier was born
French mathematician and physicist Jean-Baptiste Joseph Fourier is best known for initiating the investigation of Fourier series, which eventually developed into Fourier analysis and harmonic analysis. He is also generally credited with the discovery of the greenhouse effect. Fourier died from a combination of complications from a heart aneurysm and an accident he had from falling down stairs.
