The Narendra Modi Stadium is an international cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators.
Kopru Dam failure
The Kopru Dam is a gravity dam on the Goksu, the main tributary of the Seyhan River about 25 km (16 mi) northwest of Kozan in Adana Province, Turkey. Its primary purpose is hydroelectric power generation. Construction began in 2009 and was complete in 2012. On 24 February 2012, the dam's diversion tunnel seal broke while the dam was impounding the river for the first time. This resulted in 97,000,000 m3 (78,639 acre-ft) of water flooding the downstream area of the dam. The accident and subsequent flood killed 10 workers. Downstream communities received proper warning and no one was killed.
2004 Al Hoceima earthquake
The 2004 Al Hoceima earthquake occurred on 24 February at 02:27:47 local time near the coast of northern Morocco. The strike-slip earthquake measured 6.3 on the moment magnitude scale and had a maximum perceived intensity of IX (Violent) on the Mercalli intensity scale. Between 628 and 631 people were killed, 926 were injured, and up to 15,000 people were made homeless in the Al Hoceima-Imzourene-Beni Abdallah area. Ground cracks and landslides were observed between Ajdir and Beni Abdallah and maximum peak ground acceleration of 0.24g was recorded near Imzourene.
1981 Gulf of Corinth earthquakes
In early 1981 the eastern Gulf of Corinth, Greece was struck by three earthquakes with a magnitude greater than 6 Ms over a period of 11 days. The earthquake sequence caused widespread damage in the Corinth-Athens area, destroying nearly 8,000 houses and causing 20-22 deaths. The first earthquake in the sequence occurred at 20:53 UTC on 24 February. It had a magnitude of 6.7 Ms and a maximum felt intensity of IX (violent) on the Modified Mercalli intensity scale (MMI).
Marc Seguin died
Marc Seguin was a French engineer, inventor of the wire-cable suspension bridge and the multi-tubular steam-engine boiler. He developed the first suspension bridge in continental Europe and a total of 186 toll bridges throughout France.
