Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital completed

In 2020, construction on the Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital was declared complete. The hospital was built in just ten days to address the COVID-19 pandemic in China. The rapid construction process required extensive coordination, planning and innovative civil engineering techniques.

Digha-Sonpur Bridge opened

The Digha-Sonpur Bridge is a rail-cum-road steel truss bridge across river Ganga, connecting Digha Ghat in Patna and Pahleja Ghat in Sonpur. It is named after Indian independence activist Jayaprakash Narayan. It provides easy roadway and railway link between north and south Bihar. It is 4,556m in length and the second longest rail-cum-road bridge in India, after Bogibeel Bridge in Assam. This is second railway bridge in Bihar after Rajendra Setu that connects North Bihar to South Bihar.

1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake

The 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, also known as the Napier earthquake, occurred in New Zealand at 10:47 am on 3 February, killing 256, injuring thousands and devastating the Hawke's Bay region. It remains New Zealand's deadliest natural disaster. Centred 15 km north of Napier, it lasted for two and a half minutes and had a magnitude of 7.8 Ms (7.7 Mw). There were 525 aftershocks recorded in the following two weeks, with 597 being recorded by the end of February. The main shock could be felt in much of New Zealand, with reliable reports coming in from as far south as Timaru, on the east coast of the South Island.

Oliver Heaviside died

Oliver Heaviside was an English self-taught mathematician and physicist who invented a new technique for solving differential equations (equivalent to the Laplace transform), independently developed vector calculus, and rewrote Maxwell's equations in the form commonly used today. Heaviside changed the face of telecommunications, mathematics, and science.

Twin Peaks Tunnel opened

The Twin Peaks Tunnel is a 2.27-mile-long (3.65 km) light rail/streetcar tunnel in San Francisco, California. The tunnel runs under Twin Peaks and is used by the K Ingleside, M Ocean View and S Shuttle lines of the Muni Metro system. The eastern entrance to the tunnel is located at the west end of the Market Street subway near the intersection of Market and Castro streets in the Castro neighborhood, and the western entrance is located at West Portal Avenue and Ulloa Street in the West Portal neighborhood, named for the tunnel. There are three stations along the tunnel, West Portal at the western entrance, Forest Hill near the middle, and the now disused Eureka Valley near the eastern end.

1716 Algiers earthquake

The 1716 Algiers earthquake was part of a seismic sequence which began in February and ended in May 1716. The largest and most destructive shock occurred on February 3 with an estimated moment magnitude of 7.0. The earthquakes with an epicenter thought to be in the Algiers region had a maximum European macroseismic scale (EMS-98) intensity of IX (Destructive), killing approximately 20,000 people. The earthquake was felt in Catania and Syracuse on the Italian island Sicily.
