The ADSC: The International Association of Foundation Drilling is widely acknowledged for its focus on promoting safety in the workplace. As a contractor-based organization whose members undertake work in challenging environments, the association feels that it is incumbent upon all members to keep safety at the forefront of their operations. One of the ways the ADSC highlights its emphasis on promoting safety is to present annual awards to companies that demonstrate a strong commitment to providing their most valuable asset, their personnel, a safe working environment.
Each year the ADSC presents Safety Awards to those companies that have attained the highest level of safety in the performance of their work. Awards are presented to all classes of companies, large and small, be they contractors, engineering firms, or suppliers and manufacturers. A rigorous set of criteria are applied to applicants for these coveted honors. These encompass Loss Time Accidents, Restricted Duty/Transfer Rates, as well as in-place Safety Programs with dedicated personal whose role is to create, and implement the most stringent safety procedures in every phase of company operations. These include office and shop operations, as well as on the jobsite. In order to qualify for one of the many awards a company must subject its safety record and an analysis of their Safety Program to close scrutiny conducted by a panel of professional safety experts including representatives of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupation Safety and Health Agency (OSHA).
This year there were 19 winners representing U.S. Contractor companies, with three Canadian firms taking home special honors as well. In addition, five manufacturer and supplier firms were recognized for their outstanding safety records.*
At the top of the list is Hayward Baker, Odenton, Maryland. Hayward Baker achieved the association's highest honor in winning the "Rick Marshall Commitment to Excellence in Safety Award." Case Atlantic, Co., Clearwater, Florida, is the recipient of the "Dave White, Most Improved Safety Program." These top awards are named in honor of two of the ADSC's leading safety professionals, Rick Marshall, Safety Director, Richard Goettle, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio, and nationally prominent safety consultant Dave White, now deceased.
The ADSC works closely with OSHA by assisting in the development of regulations that affect the industries represented by the association, and maintains formal Alliance and Partnering agreements with OSHA at the federal and regional levels. Safety training workshops are conducted as stand-alone courses and are integrated into all of the association's field training programs.
Through its Technical Library service the ADSC offers a wide range of Safety Training Materials in English and Spanish editions, in both electronic and hard copy formats.
