Stormy weather and heavy rainfall has been affecting the Baltic Sea region since late Sunday which, among others, caused a train derailment in Sweden due to an embankment getting washed away on Monday.
Furthermore, the low-pressure phenomenon was named “Hans” by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and has caused widespread damage so far. More specifically, the storm has halted ferries in the Baltic and North Sea, as well as causing flight and train disruptions and killing at least one person.
In Sweden, a passenger train carrying about 120 people got derailed in Hudiksvall, after the embankment that it was travelling on got washed away. Three people were injured in the event and had to be taken to the hospital. The police said about the event that “the embankment has been undermined by the heavy rain and landslides”.
