Several videos have recently emerged, showing a retaining wall collapsing onto parked cars in the city of Vladivostok, Russia.
Furthermore, the event took place shortly before 10 o'clock on the morning of August 24, at 19 Slavyanskaya Street.
According to reports from several Russian news outlets, the retaining wall’s large concrete blocks collapsed onto seven parked cars, crushing them beyond repair.
Rescuers and investigators immediately rushed to the scene, and the area was tapped off, while the authorities later confirmed that nobody got hurt in the collapse.
NewsVL.ru reported that nearby residents had previously heard the wall cracking, with one of them removing his car from the area.
The exact reasons behind the collapse have not been determined yet, but reports mention heavy rainfall occurring in the area earlier in the week, prior to the collapse.
It is safe to assume that the main reasons behind the collapse were the concrete block design of the retaining structure itself, which seemingly lacked reinforcement, as well as the wet weather conditions that imposed extra load on the wall and could potentially have washed away its foundation.
