Bangkok authorities have confirmed steady progress in repairing the section of Samsen Road affected by last month’s ground collapse above the under-construction Vajira Hospital station on the MRT Purple Line. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has assured that no further subsidence, new cracks, or structural damage have been detected in the underground tunnel following comprehensive stabilisation works.

The MRTA reported that contractors have injected grout at eight boreholes using low-pressure techniques to enhance subsurface stability and prevent further settlement. More than 2,500 cubic metres of sand were initially placed to fill the collapsed area, followed by an additional 9,400 cubic metres of sand and 3,500 cubic metres of gravel to restore the ground level. The current surface remains approximately 4.5 metres below its original elevation, with further backfilling planned for the next construction phase.
Monitoring instruments have been installed across the affected area to continuously measure ground movement. Special attention is being given to the Samsen Police Station, where some foundation piles were compromised during the incident. The reinforced concrete roof of the structure has been safely removed, and settlement readings indicate that the building and adjacent facilities remain stable.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed that the MRT tunnel remains structurally sound, with no leakage or deformation observed. Continuous monitoring is in place, and the MRTA is coordinating with local authorities to ensure safety around Vajira Hospital and nearby residential areas.
Restoration of Samsen Road is ongoing, and demolition of damaged structures is being carried out under strict supervision. Once stability is fully confirmed, the road surface and affected buildings will be reconstructed to their original design.
