CPT technology may have additional advantages and capabilities to offer, when combined with the fluorescence detection method! Find out how Vertek is already combining these two technologies and the resulting advantages!
In its basic function, fluorescent detection records a fluorescent response to a specific excitation of automatic carbons, generated by an ultraviolet light source, in a certain chemical. The use of this technology makes it possible to detect a variety of potentially harmful chemicals, as well as contaminants such as jet fuel, diesel, unleaded gasoline, home heating oil and motor oil, making the particular technology especially beneficial at fuel spill sites.
Even though fluorescence detection is usually used to investigate the soil surface, when combined with the CPT technology, it may also apply to subsurface investigations. Vertek placed the UV light source in the form of LEDs and mercury lamps, inside the cone and used fiber-optic cables to transmit the resulting fluorescent to the surface where it can be measured in voltage responses. That way, CPT's basic geotechnical applications are further extended to increase workers' safety conditions by preventing their exposure to potentially harmful substances.
