30 is a round number, and I think it requires a little bit of reflection. In the beginning, we were just part of ASCE – everyone was kind of mixed up in the same civil engineering stew. In 1936, the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division was established. In 1974, it was renamed the Geotechnical Engineering Division. And then in 1996, the Geo-Institute was established.
