Next time you want to explain to your family, friends, or even students, what is geotechnical engineering, you can easily direct them to the whatisgeotech.org website! It was developed under the guidance of the Public Relations Committee (PRC) of the ISSMGE and its Chair, Dr. Marc Ballouz. The PRC selected Geoengineer.org to develop the website design and its content. The website is just one page with various optional windows that a visitor can open. There is a strict definition of geotechnical engineering, and a more fun one! Then, there are images that can be selected by the visitor and feature the various fields of geotechnical engineering practice. Visitors can click on the image and read more about what geotechs do exactly in each of these fields.
The website also has a map that allows visitors to find the contact info of the main geotechnical organization in each country. This information is automatically collected from the ISSMGE website and so will remain current in the future. So, as the Chair of the PRC said: “Here it is! Spread the news. Tell people what we do.”
