Heavy rainfall in northwestern Italy has triggered many extensive landslides recently, particularly in the Liguria region, where over 100 landslides occurred according to La Presse.
The landslides have blocked the road and rail traffic and parts of the main road connecting the Italian-French border to the Italian capital have been closed down. 200 people were forced to abandon their homes and 1000 more were stranded in a remote mountain community, as Times Live reports. The severity of the incidents is depicted in the following video taken by a drone, which shows a derailed train that travelled between Andora and Cervo. The train was pushed by the material dislocated due to an adjacent landslide and came very close to falling in the ocean. "The situation is really critical," said Renato Briano, regional representative for the civil protection agency.
