Tunnel-boring machines deployed at tunneling projects across the U.S. are using Twitter to share observations in real-time with anyone interested. And wow! People are interested! They want to hear and see what is going on deep underground and how that may affect them.
A good example is Bertha, the 57.5-ft-dia TBM that will dig the new two-mile tunnel to replace Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct for the Washington State Dept. of Transportation (WashDOT). Bertha started a twitter account in December and has now more than 3,500 followers.
