Keynetix's Technical Director, Mr. Gary Morin, took time out of his busy December schedule to accept an invitation to present Geotechnical BIM at the GeoBIM Europe conference.
Confusingly the term Geo in this case refers to geospatial and not geotechnical and it is interesting to see just how many crossovers there are between the two disciplines.
Keynetix’s invite was from Mr. Martin Peersmann of the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure, who had recently helped to get the BRO law passed, which stipulates geotechnical data has to be captured and stored centrally. Research has shown that by having comprehensive geotechnical data readily on hand could save somewhere in the region 2%- 5% on the total construction build in the Netherlands. In fact Mr. Peersmann shared with us a presentation he had developed in presenting the case for the new law which included slides from a past Keynetix presentations!
The event itself was held over the 10th and 11th December, in Amsterdam. Over 150 delegates attended the event to watch a diverse array of presentations from “How to make BIM SME friendly” to “Visualising cities with Minecraft” (ask your children about this one!), in fact Minecraft seemed to be a theme through the conference with some excellent images.
