Hong Kong issues tender for 3.6km East drainage tunnel

Hong Kong’s Drainage Services Department (DSD) has invited tenders for the Hong Kong East Drainage Tunnel (Contract No. DC/2026/04), marking the next phase of a major stormwater infrastructure scheme on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island.

The works mainly include:

• construction of a drainage tunnel of about 3.6 kilometres in length and about 5 metres in diameter from Shau Kei Wan and Chai Wan to Pak Sha Wan;
• construction of seven intakes and connection adits;
• construction of an outfall; and
• carrying out ancillary works.

According to the DSD, construction is scheduled to commence in August 2026 and is expected to take approximately 46 months to complete. Tender documents are available through Hong Kong’s e-Tendering System (e-TS). Submissions must be made electronically via the platform, with the tender closing at noon on 17 April 2026.

The new Hong Kong East Drainage Tunnel continues the strategic approach, further strengthening flood resilience across Hong Kong Island.
