Scholari, Kardia and Trilofo are in an emergency situation after landslide. The ground has slipped up to 6.5 meters in places, while the locals live daily in fear of new landslides. A resident describes "A few days ago the pipeline of the old water supply system broke because of subsidence caused by the continuous rainfalls this winter. After that, the rift grew, causing large cracks. We had to leave our house".
The geologist Nick Kazilis, who visits daily the affected areas, has warned the authorities that the appropriate repairs for shielding the problem areas, should be accomplished as soon as possible, otherwise the areas will be moved down until September.
The geologist highlighted that drainage projects are essential for the absorption of water.
In his report, Mr. Kazilis mentioned the need of making effective control of water leaks in the old water supply system and controlling the water, which is arbitrarily pumped from underground buildings.
